Özet

Amaç:   Çevre kirliliği önemli bir halk sağlığı sorunudur. Bu araştırma; Elazığ il merkezinde lise öğrencilerinin çevre sağlığı konusuna yaklaşım ve duyarlılıklarını saptamak amacıyla yapılmıştır.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı tipte olan bu çalışmada; Elazığ il merkezinde basit rastgele yöntemle seçilen beş lisenin 1,2 ve 3’üncü sınıflarında eğitim görmekte olan ve araştırmanın yapıldığı gün okulda bulunan öğrenciler araştırma kapsamına alınmıştır. Böylece 1480 kişiye ulaşılarak direkt gözlem altında anket uygulanmıştır. Tutarsızlıklar saptanan 58 anket değerlendirme dışı bırakılmış, cevaplılık oranı %96.1 olmuştur.
Bulgular: Araştırma kapsamına alınan öğrencilerin yaş ortalaması 16.29±1.13 olup; %49.6’sı erkek, %50.4’ü kız öğrencidir. Öğrencilerin %70.7’si hava kirliliğinin dünyada önemli bir çevre sağlığı sorunu olduğunu, %85.2’si çevre kirliliği nedeniyle insanların ya da diğer canlıların sağlığının bozulabileceğini bildirmiştir. Ancak; çevre kirliliği nedeniyle oluşabilecek en az bir hastalık ifade edenlerin oranı %68.0’dır. Öğrencilerin %60.7’si çevre sağlığı konusunda duyarlı olduğunu ifade etmiştir. Öğrencilerin %80.2’si yerlere tüküren, %64.6’sı da yere çöp atan insanları uyaracağını ya da uyardığını belirtmiştir. Öğrencilerin %44.7’si evsel ısınma araçlarının, %55.0’ı da termik santrallerin hava kirliliğinde etken olmadığı görüşündedir. Dünyada ve ülkemizde çevre kirliliği sorunu ile ilgilenen en az bir resmi kuruluşu ifade edebilenlerin oranı %9.6, konu ile ilgili en az bir sivil toplum örgütünü ifade edebilme oranı ise %30.7 olmuştur. Öğrencilerin %62.1’i çevre kirliliğine karşı verilecek her türlü mücadeleye her zaman destek olacağını belirtmiştir.
Sonuç: Elazığ il merkezinde bulunan liselerde öğrenim görmekte olan öğrencilerin çevre sağlığı konusunda bilgi ve bilinç eksikliği mevcuttur. Öğrencilerin çevre konusunda bilgilendirilmesi ve bilinçlendirilmesi amacıyla okul, ebeveyn ve konunun uzmanları işbirliği içerisinde eğitim programları oluşturulmalıdır.

Approach and Concerns of High School Students in Elazığ City Center Towards Environmental Health

Summary

Aim:  Environmental pollution is a considerable public health problem. This investigation aims to determine the approach and concerns of high school students towards public health, in the city center of Elazığ.
Material and Methods: In this descriptive study, students attending the first, second and third classes, randomly selected from five high schools, who were at school on the day of the study in the city center of Elazığ were included. Thus, a questionnaire was filled out under direct observation on 1480 students. 58 questionnaire was excluded due to inconsistency, and the response rate was 96.1%.
Results: The mean age of students included in the study was 16.29±1.13. 49.6% were male and 50.4% were female. 70.7% of the students stated that air pollution was an important environmental problem and 85.2% stated that the health of the people and living organisms may be interrupted by environmental pollution. However, only 68% could express at least a disease that may arise due to environmental pollution. 60.7% stated that they were concerned about environmental health. Among the students, 80.2% stated that they warned people not to spit in the streets and warned 64.6% not to throw their wastes. 44.7% and 55% of students did not consider domestic heating devices and thermic centrals, respectively, to be causes of air pollution. The ratio of individuals who could refer to at least one institution concerned about environmental pollution in the world and in our country was 9.6%, the rate of individuals who could refer to at least one civic public organization was 30.7%. 62.1% of the students stated that they were eager to support any kind of struggle against environmental pollution.
Conclusion: Students under education in high schools in the city center of Elazığ lack information and understanding on environmental health. In order to inform and increase the understanding of students, training programs should be established in school, with the cooperation of parents and experts.
