Özet

Prostaglandinler, memelilerdeki kimyasal aracıların önemli bir grubunu oluştururlar ve çok sayıda fizyolojik reaksiyona katılmaktadırlar. Prostaglandinler 20 karbon atomu içeren poliansature yağ asitlerinden kaynaklanmaktadır. Mide mukozası sürekli olarak asit, pepsin, safra asitleri, yiyecek maddeleri, bakteriyel ürünler ve ilaçlar gibi çeşitli zarar verici ajanlara maruz kalmaktadır. Prostaglandin türevlerinin mideyi bu zarar verici ajanlara karşı koruma yeteneğinin olduğu bilinmektedir ve bu fenomen ‘gastric cytoprotection’ olarak isimlendirilmektedir. Prostaglandinler, mukus sentez ve sekresyonu, bikarbonat sekresyonu, mukozal kan akımı ve hücre tamiri gibi çeşitli faktörleri uyararak mukozal bütünlüğün sürdürülmesinde önemli bir role sahiptir.

Role of Prostaglandins in Gastric Mucosal Barrier

Summary

Prostaglandins, one of the major groups of chemical mediators in the mammalian body, are involved in numerous physiological reactions. Prostaglandins derive from polyunsaturated fatty acids containing 20 carbon atoms. The gastric mucosa is continuously exposed to potentially injurious agents such as acid, pepsin, bile acids, food ingredients, bacterial products and drugs. It is known that a variety of prostaglandins are capable of protecting the stomach against necrotizing agents, the phenomen called ‘gastric cytoprotection’. Prostaglandins stimulate several factors felt to be important in maintaining normal mucosal integrity, such as mucus synthesis and secretion, bicarbonate secretion, mucosal blood flow and cellular repair.
