ÖZET

Metanol zehirlenmesi, oluşan toksik metabolitleri nedeniyle, retina ve optik sinirde körlük ile sonuçlanan toksik hasara neden olur. Hastalığın özellikle erken dönemde tedavisinin görme kaybını önleyebildiği bilinmektedir. Tedavide alkol dehidrogenaz enzimi kompetatif inhibitörü olan etanol sistemik veya oral olarak kullanılabilmektedir. Etanolün sistemik formunun temin edilmesi zor, oral formunun ise doz ayarlanması güçtür. Bu olgu sunumuzda metil alkol intoksikasyonuna bağlı olarak görme kaybı gelişen ve kolonya içiminden 96 saat sonra oral etil alkol ve B vitamin kompleksi ile tedavi edilerek iki gözünde tam görme keskinliklerine ulaşılan bir olgunun sunumu amaçlanmıştır.

Success of Oral Ethyl Alcohol in Late Period in Reversal of Visual Loss Due To Methanol Intoxication

SUMMARY

Methyl alcohol intoxication results in permanent visual loss due to retinal damage. It requires early diagnosis and intervention for treatment to be successful. Reversal of retinal damage can be accomplished by oral and systemic ethyl alcohol which is a competitive inhibitor of alcohol dehydrogenase, but it is not convenient since systemic form of it is difficult to obtain, and it is not easy to adjust adequate serum levels with oral treatment. In this study, we wanted to report a case of methanol intoxication in which successful reversal of visual loss was accomplished by oral ethyl alcohol 96 hours after intoxication.
