Özet

Behçet hastalığı, ilk kez 1937 yılında Hulusi Behçet tarafından; tekrarlayan oral ve genital aftöz ülserasyon ve iridosiklit gibi göz lezyonlarından oluşan, etyolojisi bilinmeyen multisistemik vaskülitik bir hastalık olarak tanımlanmıştır. Günümüzde Behçet hastalığı, sadece mukokütanöz, göz ve damar tutulumuna neden olmayıp; kas-iskelet, nörolojik, pulmoner, gastrointestinal ve genitoüriner tutuluma da yol açan bir hastalık olarak bilinmektedir. Behçet hastalığının tedavisindeki amaç, inflamasyonu baskılayarak organlarda gelişebilecek kalıcı yapısal hasarları önlemektir.

Treatment Approaches to Behcet’s Disease

Summary

Behcet’s disease is a multisystem vasculitic syndrome of unknown etiology named after Hulusi Behcet, who described the clinical triad of aphthous ulcers, genital ulcers and iritis in 1937. It is now well recognized that Behcet’s disease encompasses not only mucocutaneous, ocular, and vascular manifestations but also musculoskeletal, neurologic, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary manifestations. Treatment of Behcet’s disease is directed at suppression of inflammation with the aim of preventing the occurrence of irreversible organ damage.
