ÖZET
Amaç: Psödoeksfolyasyon (PEX) Sendromu etiyolojisinde önemli birer antioksidan mineral olan çinko ve bakır etkisini irdelemek.
Gereç ve Yöntem: PEX’i olan 29 kataraktlı hasta (Grup 1) ve 25 PEX olmayan katarakt hastası (Grup 2) çalışmaya dahil edildi. Tüm bireylerden açlık kan örnekleri alındı. Serum çinko ve bakır düzeyleri spektrofotometrik metodla tayin edildi.
Bulgular: Serum çinko seviyeleri ortalama grup 1’de 100.12±39.86 mg/dl, grup 2’de 113.83±44.79 mg/dl idi. Serum bakır seviyeleri ortalama grup 1’de 92.55±34.15 mg/dl, 84.42±30.10 mg/dl olarak bulundu. İki grup arası fark çinko ve bakır için anlamlı değildi (p>0.05).
Sonuç: Çinko ve bakır serbest radikal hasarından koruyucu en önemli antioksidan minerallerdendir ve süperoksitdismutaz enzimi üzerinden etkilidir. Aslında çinko ve bakır serbest radikal aktivitesinden koruyucu ajanlardır. Fakat bu serbest radikal etkisine karşı olan etkileri PEX patogenezinde etkili görünmemektedir.

Serum Zinc and Copper Levels in Pseudoexfoliation Syndrome
SUMMARY
Purpose: To investigate whether there is a role for zinc and copper in the development of pseudoexfoliation (PEX) syndrome.
Material and Methods: Twenty nine cataract patients with PEX (Group 1) and 25 cataract patients without PEX (Group 2) were included into the study. A fasting blood sample was collected from all subjects. Serum zinc and copper levels were measured with spectrophotometric method.
Results: Mean serum zinc levels were 100.12±39.86 mg/dl in group 1 and 113.83±44.79 mg/dl in group 2. Mean serum copper levels were 92.55±34.15 mg/dl group 1 and 84.42±30.10 mg/dl in group 2. The difference between two groups for zinc and copper was not significant (p>0.05).
Conclusion: In view of the fact that zinc and copper are major protective factor against free radical action, a role for free radical action was not demonstrated in the pathogenesis of PEX.
