Özet

Amaç: Astigmatizmanın düzeltilmesinde farklı tasarımlı 2 tip torik yumuşak lensin göz üzerindeki performansının karşılaştırılması
Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu çalışmada miyopik astigmatizmalı 40 olgunun 71 gözü prospektif olarak değerlendirildi. On olgunun 18 gözüne Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism (Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Jacksonville,FL), 11 olgunun 19 gözüne PureVision Toric (Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, NY) torik yumuşak kontakt lens uygulandı. Olguların 5 dakika, 30 dakika, 1 hafta ve 1 ay sonundaki muayenelerinde lens hareketi ve stabilizasyonu değerlendirildi ve 1 ay sonundaki kontrolde günlük kontakt lens kullanım süresi, gün sonu rahatlığı ve genel memnuniyeti sorgulandı. Ondokuz olgunun 34 gözüne ise daha önce kullandığı torik kontakt lens değiştirilip, farklı tasarımdaki diğer yumuşak kontakt lens uygulandı. Birinci gün 1. hafta ve 1. ay sonunda lens hareketi, stabilizasyon ve sübjektif bulgular değerlendirildi.
Bulgular: İlk grupta farklı lens kullanan olgular arasında günlük ortalama lens kullanma süreleri açısından istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark yoktu (p>0,05). Lens stabilizasyonu ve hareketi her iki grupta ‘çok iyi’ olarak değerlendirildi. Daha önce kullandığı torik lens değiştirilen olgularda ise lens hareketi ve stabilizasyonu, gün sonu rahatlık ve sübjektif şikayetler açısından fark saptanmadı (p>0,05).
Sonuç: Farklı tasarımı olan her iki tip torik yumuşak kontakt lensin göz üzerindeki performanslarının klinikte farklı olmadığı, her iki lensin de astigmatizma düzeltilmesinde yeterli ve etkili olduğu düşünüldü.

Evaluation of Two Different Toric Lens Applications in Subjects with Myopic Astigmatism

SUMMARY

Aim: To compare the on eye performance of two different types of soft toric contact lenses with different designs in the correction of astigmatism.
Material and Method: Seventy-one eyes of 40 subjects were included in to this prospective study. In the first group of patients Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism (Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Jacksonville, FL) contact lenses were fitted on 18 eyes of 10 subjects and PureVision Toric (Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, NY) contact lenses were fitted on 19 eyes of 11 subjects. Lens movement and stabilization were evaluated after 5 minutes, 30 minutes, one week, and one month. At the last follow-up daily contact lens wearing time, end of day comfort and overall satisfaction were questioned. In the second group of patients (34 eyes of 19 subjects) the toric contact lenses, the patients have been wearing were exchanged with the other design. Lens movement and stabilization were evaluated at day one, week one and month one.
Results: In the first group, there was no statistically significant difference between two brands in terms of daily contact lens wearing time (p>0.05). Lens movement and stabilization were rated as ‘very good’ with both brands. In the second group, no difference was noted in the lens movement, stabilization, end of day comfort and subjective complaints.
Conclusion: There seems to be no clinical difference between the brands in regards to on eye performance of soft toric lenses with different designs. Lenses with different stabilization designs were considered adequate and effective in the correction of astigmatism.
